CANDIDATE FOR CITY COUNCIL
Trevor McAleese
Game developer and former federal candidate with extensive housing, transit, accountability and service proposals.
Nomination checked September 28, 2026. Earlier platform and record research: September 8, 2026. Recent statements show their own review dates.
Experience & background
Independent game developer with arts and technology instruction experience; campaign describes a lifelong Okanagan connection. [72]
Ran as the federal NDP candidate in Kelowna in 2025. A candidacy does not establish a parliamentary voting record. [75]
Issue positions
Campaign proposals are attributed positions. A blank area is an information gap, never an assumed vote against an issue.
Housing & growth
Proposes family-sized and accessible homes, inclusionary housing, anti-renoviction measures and conditional restrictions on investor short-term rentals. [73]
Would condition investor short-term rental licensing on long-term rental conditions and require a two-hour response for complaints. His platform also proposes minimum provision for family-sized, accessible and deeply affordable homes. [73]
Safety & homelessness
Supports overnight downtown and Rutland ambassadors, non-police crisis response, gang enforcement and daily access to sanitation and support services. [73]
Supports expanding civilian and clinician crisis response alongside police action on gang activity, with on-call coverage outside regular service hours. [73]
Transportation
Would improve signals, transit frequency and shelters. Questionnaire supports airport RapidBus and permanent pedestrian space on Bernard. [73][74]
Taxes & spending
Opposes within-term council pay increases; advocates competitive procurement and provincial land-value-tax reform. [73]
Business & jobs
Supports mixed-use neighbourhoods, childcare space and a year-round market. [73]
Proposes affordable commercial spaces and an indoor vendor market, alongside youth employment in parks. [73]
Accountability
Proposes ward or hybrid representation, searchable voting histories and reform of alternative approval processes. [73]
Climate, land & water
Proposes FireSmart roof incentives, air filtration, tree protection, waste repair and reuse initiatives. [73]
Community & services
Would prioritize public washrooms and bus shelters; his questionnaire’s hypothetical $1-million allocation is an illustration, not a costed budget. [74]
Recent public statements
What the candidate has said publicly, with links to the original sources.
Crisis response and policing · Candidate questionnaire
Proposes expanding Downtown On-Call, URBA On-Call and CRCL capacity for low-risk, non-criminal calls, freeing police for crime response. Also calls for more gang-enforcement resources and better rehabilitation and prevention pathways.
Candidate-written Capital News response; separate from the OKLV questionnaire. These are campaign proposals, not verified outcomes.

Politics & broader policy
Political alignment & party history
Federal NDP candidate, 2025
Ran for the federal NDP in Kelowna in 2025. This documented history is not a claim that all federal NDP policies form his 2026 municipal platform. [75][76]
Broader public & foreign policy
Dated personal statements, historical campaigns and organizational positions are distinguished below.
Advocates public transit operation and senior-government tax and housing reforms. Several proposals require provincial action or legal review. [73]
His 2025 VoteMate page lists federal NDP promises including recognition of Palestinian statehood and a two-way arms embargo on Israel. These are explicitly party promises, not independently verified personal statements; they are not carried forward as municipal commitments. [76]
In a self-identified April 2025 campaign AMA, described Israeli actions against Palestinians as genocide and called for Canada to impose an arms embargo. This reports his stated position in that forum, rather than a finding by this website or an assumption about all NDP candidates. [95]
