Published with the candidate's explicit authorization. Answers below are the candidate's own statements, not independently verified outcomes or recorded votes. Original wording retained except normalized whitespace and the marked privacy redaction. Private contact and technical identifiers excluded. 1. What experience and perspective would you bring to the school board? Former School District Trustee for Coldstream. 8 years. 34 years experience as teacher and principal. 13 years business experience with Appletree Childcare. 2 years experience as principal integrating preschool with elementary school 2. What are your three main priorities for the district, and what progress would you want voters to see in your first year? Continued and improving safe, healthy welcoming schools. Continued and improving scores from government tests. Renewing, replacing facilities and infrastructure to be more energy efficient and minimize pollution. 3. How would you assess whether students are learning and thriving, and what would you do at the board level if outcomes are falling short? Monitor government test results for students to see continuing and improving test results. During in-camera meetings, review on a regular basis exam results. If results are not improving and have not been improving overtime, ask superintendent and senior administration what is causing and how do we as a Board improve and correct this? 4. When needs exceed the available budget, how would you decide what to protect, change or defer? Please explain a trade-off you would be prepared to consider. Adequate staffing for special needs. In order for all students to improve, enough staff has to be available. Trade-off would be putting more from the annual budget into instruction. This may require reduction in non class areas. Superintendent's role during in-camera to provide recommendations. Board's role is to review, discuss, listen to the community and go from there. 5. What would you prioritize to improve access to learning and support for students with disabilities or diverse learning needs, and how would you measure progress? Students with disabilities and diverse learning cannot always be measured in a straight line. Provide adequate staff support for those students. Review their progress on a regular basis. Progress will be individual but wherever possible, should show improvement. 6. What board policies or oversight would you prioritize for student safety, belonging and well-being, including responses to bullying and discrimination? All schools have a safe school, anti bullying, discrimination policy which aligns with the Human Rights Code. This policy needs to be embedded into the daily routine and expectation of the school. This is a question which trustees can ask for regular updates during in-camera. 7. How would you work with local First Nations and Indigenous families on Indigenous student success and the district's education responsibilities? Regular meetings with FN and Indigenous families regarding student success. Continued data showing student improvement and where improvement is needed. Shared discussion how families can assist the school district to improve success. 8. How would students, parents/caregivers and staff meaningfully influence board decisions, including people who do not usually attend meetings? Trustees can attend PAC meetings if invited. I am quite prepared to be at the Food Court in the Village Green Mall and meet with constituents on a regular basis over coffee. 9. How would you approach school space, maintenance, transportation or other capital and service pressures in your district? Which choices can the board make, and which need provincial support? All these areas need additional provincial support. During in-camera or regular board meetings, ask maintenance staff to provide information and the status of the areas mentioned. Maintenance staff are closest to what needs improvement based on priority. Board can be provided regular information regarding this. 10. How would you oversee the superintendent and monitor the strategic plan while respecting the boundary between governance and day-to-day school operations? Superintendent is responsible for the strategic plan. Superintendent can report during regular, open meetings or in-camera as to the process of the strategic plan. The District should be accomplishing the strategic plan over time. This can be reviewed regularly. 11. How would you keep decisions transparent and remain accountable to the public, including when you disagree with colleagues or must protect confidential information? Disagreement with colleagues should be respectful. We can disagree without being disagreeable. Wherever possible, decisions should be made in open meetings. Confidential information needs to be during in-camera sessions. 12. What interests or affiliations should voters know about, and how would you identify and manage potential conflicts of interest? No affiliations or interests outside of the ordinary. I like fishing! Actual and potential conflicts of interest needs to be revealed ahead of time. If trustee is aware, that needs to be revealed and trustee should remove himself/herself from the meeting. Any trustee can report an actual or potential conflict of interest. Additional material: Is there anything else voters should know, or a public source supporting your answers? If you already completed the general questionnaire, you may identify an existing answer you want retained instead of repeating it. No answer supplied.
